te 'vadan yadi yūyam ikhācela sarasya mañcṛṣāṃ virūjatha tadaṃ nyāṃ tāṃ na vijana kintu doāṣāyekaṭānāni tasmai datta tataḥ sa yuśān niramayān kariṣyati, khaparu yujhāna ke sa kuto na nyavattatedaṃ jñāsyatha|

And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

तेनte·na तेte पच्छःpacchaḥ, दाषाथकदानीयंdāṣāthakadānīyaṃ वयंva·yaṃ किंkiṃ ज्यंjyaṃ तस्मायुत्सुच्यामःtasmāyutsucyāmaḥ? तेte ऽवदन्va·dan पिले्टीवाध्यच्वाणंpileṭīvādhyacvāṇaṃ संख्यानुसारात्saṃkhyānusārāt पञ्चpañ·ca खर्णाशासिkharṇāśāsi पदpada खणमृथिकांखkhaṇamṛthikāṃkha दद्धंdaddhaṃ यतोya·to युष्माकंyuṣ·mā·kaṃ सर्व्वेषांsar·ve·ṣāṃ युद्मदध्यच्ताणाच्चेकरूपyudmadadhyactāṇāccekarūpa ण्यṇya कोष्णkoṣṇa जातःjā·taḥ।

tena te pacchaḥ, dāṣāthakadānīyaṃ vayaṃ kiṃ jyaṃ tasmāyutsucyāmaḥ? te 'vadan pileṭīvādhyacvāṇaṃ saṃkhyānusārāt pañca kharṇāśāsi pada khaṇamṛthikāṃkha daddhaṃ yato yuṣmākaṃ sarvveṣāṃ yudmadadhyactāṇāccekarūpa ṇya koṣṇa jātaḥ|

Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

भिखौवलोकाःbhikhauvalokāḥ फिरोन्phiron राजाrā·jā चca यादृशंyā·dṛ·śaṃ खेघामkheghāma अन्तःकरantaḥkara गान्यकठिनयन्gānyakaṭhinayan यूयमपिyū·ya·ma·pi तादृशम्tā·dṛ·śam अन्तःकरणंantaḥkaraṇaṃ कुतःku·taḥ कठिनयथःkaṭhinayathaḥ? तेषांte·ṣāṃ म्येmye तेनास्वय्येकम्मसtenāsvayyekammasa एतेषुe·te·ṣu लोकास्तेlo·kās·te: किंkiṃ नna विषदःviṣadaḥ?

bhikhauvalokāḥ phiron rājā ca yādṛśaṃ kheghāma antaḥkara gānyakaṭhinayan yūyamapi tādṛśam antaḥkaraṇaṃ kutaḥ kaṭhinayathaḥ? teṣāṃ mye tenāsvayyekammasa eteṣu lokāste: kiṃ na viṣadaḥ?

Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:

tata śakaṭa yadi parameśvarasya somāyā mārgeṇa vetaṣṭomaśaṃ yāti tadasmākaṃ mahada maṅalaṃ tenaiva kṛtaṃ,

And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.

anantaraṃ taṭgavīiyam ṛjamāgaṃṇa gacchat vetaśemaśasya diśaṃ jagāma, tat śabdāyamānam rakamanā rājamārgeṇeva jagāma dakṣiṇa vāmaṃ vāna parāvadata; pileṭīyānām adhipataya vaitaśemaśastha sīmāṃ yāvat tasya paścāt jagmuḥ|

And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.

तदानींta·dā·nīṃ वेतशेमशनिवासिनःvetaśemaśanivāsinaḥ समश्यूसेsamaśyūse गोधूमgodhūma छान्तन्तिchāntanti तta ऊड्डद्िंūḍḍadiṃ कृत्वाkṛt·vā मञ्जुवांmañjuvāṃ ददशांdadaśāṃ द्वाdvā चाजकादिरेcājakādire।

अनन्तरंa·nan·ta·raṃ वेतरेमश्योयलोाकाःvetaremaśyoyaloākāḥ परमे्रparamera स्यsya मञ्जूषावांmañjūṣāvāṃ दृष्टिdṛṣṭi पातयामासःpātayāmāsaḥ, तत्कारणात्tat·kā·ra·ṇāt सsa तान्tān खाजघाना्ंतत्तेषांkhājaghānāṃtatteṣāṃ सप्त्यधिकपश्चसदइखाणिsaptyadhikapaścasadaikhāṇi लोकान्lo·kān विनाश्वाञ्चकारvināśvāñcakāra परमेश्वरpa·ra·meś·va·ra एतेनe·te·na मद्ाप्रद्धारेगmadāpraddhārega तान्tān खाजघानkhājaghāna ततोta·to हेतोhe·to लाकाlā·kā विललपुःvilalapuḥ।

anantaraṃ vetaremaśyoyaloākāḥ paramera sya mañjūṣāvāṃ dṛṣṭi pātayāmāsaḥ, tatkāraṇāt sa tān khājaghānāṃtatteṣāṃ saptyadhikapaścasadaikhāṇi lokān vināśvāñcakāra parameśvara etena madāpraddhārega tān khājaghāna tato heto lākā vilalapuḥ|

And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

अपरंa·pa·raṃ बेतशमशीयलेाकाbetaśamaśīyaleākā अवदन्a·va·dan एतस्यe·tas·ya पविचस्यpavicasya प्रभोःpra·bhoḥ परमेश्वरस्यpa·ra·meś·va·ras·ya साक्षात्sāk·ṣāt केke संस्थातुंsaṃsthātuṃ शक्रुवन्तिśak·ru·van·ti सोऽस्मत्तःso'smattaḥ कस्यkas·ya समीपंsa·mī·paṃ यास्यतिyās·ya·ti?

aparaṃ betaśamaśīyaleākā avadan etasya pavicasya prabhoḥ parameśvarasya sākṣāt ke saṃsthātuṃ śakruvanti so'smattaḥ kasya samīpaṃ yāsyati?

And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?
